Economy overview
Well endowed with natural resources, Ghana has roughly twice the per capita output of the poorest countries in West Africa. Even so, Ghana remains heavily dependent on international financial and technical assistance. Gold and cocoa production and individual remittances are major sources of foreign exchange. Oil production was expand in late 2010 or early 2011. Finance
The cedi (currency sign: ₵; currency code: GHS) is the unit of currency of Ghana. One cedi = 100 pesewas.
The present cedi was introduced on July 3, 2007, and was equal to 10,000 old cedis when redenomination saw four zeros lopped off the value. It was the highest-valued currency unit issued by sovereign countries in Africa in 2007.
